I grew up near the sea and nothing beats falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. Or waking up to it\u2026 or walking along the beach next to it\u2026 or surfing in it\u2026 or staring out at it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>B. Five likes and five dislikes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I like spending quality time with my son, reading, listening to live jazz, walking in the park and laughing with friends.<\/p>\n<p>I dislike being late, getting behind schedule, cooking, red meat, and big egos.<\/p>\n<p><strong>C. Three things on your bucket list<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An American road trip with my best friend, sailing around the Greek islands, and redecorating my entire home!<\/p>\n<p><strong>D. What triggered this specific story?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I wanted a setting that would take my characters way out of their comfort zone. My heroine is a wealthy socialite from New York and my hero is a hunky ex-military engineering tycoon from London, so I thought what better place to stick them than in the African jungle.<\/p>\n<p>Growing up on the east coast of South Africa, I\u2019ve always loved the wilderness and the subtropical rainforests of the region, so I applied this knowledge to the story, and set the book in the Congolese jungle.<br \/>\nNot only do my characters have to get to grips with the heat, humidity and lack of infrastructure, but they also have to cope with gorillas, rebels and the instability of the country.<br \/>\nDuring my research I fell in love with the magnificent mountain gorillas, which are sadly critically endangered. I am also in awe of the brave park rangers who risk their lives on a daily basis to protect these endangered animals.<br \/>\nSo for me, the book is so much more than just a love story.
