Ceylon tea with fellow South African author Dorothy Ewels

Today I’m having Ceylon tea with fellow South Africa author,  the lovely Dorothy Ewels and we’re talking about her debut romance, Love at last (absolutely love the title!)

D. What triggered this specific story?

I used to work as a criminal court transcriptionist and a particular case I worked on sparked the idea. The story doesn’t follow the case but that’s what led to the idea for the first chapter.

When Willow’s lifelong best friend is murdered, she’s left devastated. She knows she needs to pull herself together for the two little girls who are now put under her guardianship. The last thing that should be on her mind is the attraction to investigating officer Adam Dawson.

From the moment Adam glances Willow’s way, he finds himself drawn to her, but she’s off limits. He needs to be professional while investigating her best friend’s murder.

The murderer has no intention of stopping, throwing Willow and Adam into a maelstrom of danger and deceit. Events unfold testing not only Willow, but also Adam’s strength of character, as well as their blossoming love.

Will Willow be another victim? Or can Adam save not only the girl, but their relationship as well?

A glass of Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blank with author Annie Seaton

cloudy wineanne_beach

I’m having a glass of white wine with Australian author Annie Seaton and we’re talking about her latest release Kakadu Sunset. Annie prefers a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, so I’ve chosen one from Cloudy Bay cellars in New Zealand. (More info about them here: http://www.cloudybay.co.nz)

But before we talk about the book, let’s find out more about Annie Seaton:

A. Quickies

  1. Tea or wine? (what brand/cultivar?)

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.

  1. Read or jog?

LOL… you really have to ask that? Read!

  1. Cats or dogs?

Both… hard to choose.

  1. Heels or flats?

Bare feet most of the day

  1. Boxers or briefs?

  1. Milk, dark or white chocolate

All of the above

  1. Sweet or savoury

  1. Sea or mountains

Sea, sea, sea.

B. Five likes and five dislikes

Likes: Cuddling my grand babies, havinga day to swing in my hammock and read, walking the beach, my garden, spending time with my author buddies

Dislikes: Having to rush to get everything done, being disorganized (refer point one), ironing, being stuck in a story when a new one wants to be written, Facebook time suck- an evil necessity

C. Three things on your bucket list

  1. Switzerland
  2. New York
  3. Live on a tropical island

Kakadu sunsetD. What triggered this specific story?

Kakadu National Park is one of Australia’s special places—World Heritage listed for both its environment and its living Aboriginal culture. Two years ago on the way to the Northern Territory, we crossed the vast outback through three states, travelling through ancient landscapes and many of those landscapes had been scarred by various types of mining.

Visiting Kakadu and experiencing the spirituality of the land made me wonder what would happen if mining occurred in that pristine environment. The idea for Kakadu Sunset was born. I guess you could call it Crocodile Dundee meets Erin Brockovich! I love including places that I have travelled to in my writing to share the experiences, and the beautiful landscapes, with readers who cannot travel to them.

Helicopter pilot Ellie Porter loves her job. Soaring above the glorious Kakadu National Park, she feels freed from the heavy losses of her beloved family farm and the questions around her father’s suicide. But when a search-and-rescue mission on the boundary of the older property reveals unusual excavation works, Ellie vows to investigate.

The last thing she needs is her bad-tempered co-pilot, Kane McLaren, interfering. The son of the current owners of the farm, her attraction to him is a distraction she can’t afford, especially when someone threatens to put a stop to her inquiries – by any means necessary.

Ellie will have to trust Kane if she is to have any hope of uncovering the truth of what is really going on. Between Ellie’s damage and Kane’s secrets, can they find a way to open up to each other before the shadowy forces shut her up… for good?
