Today I’m having Earl Grey tea with a fellow Tule Publishing author, the fabulous Fiona McArthur. It’s a pity we’re having this early in the day, otherwise we could’ve had some bubbly – her other favorite drink!

We’re talking about her new release, Holly’s Heart, part of the Outback Brides series. But before we look at her book, let’s find out more about her!

A. Quickies

  1. Tea or wine?

I do love my Early Grey tea to start my writing day. I use my grandmother’s teapot and watch the mist on the paddocks as I write. Of course, the perfect end to a day, has very effervescent bubbles in a flute glass.

  1. Read or jog?

Jog? What is this jog? Explain this jog? I need to walk more. [I had such a giggle over this, Fi – I totally agree!]

  1. Cats or dogs?

Dogs. Cats don’t like the beach and dogs go berserk there. Nothing more joyful than a dog at the beach.

  1. Heels or flats?

I adore heels, the higher, the glossier, the more extravagant the better – but to look at only.

  1. Boxers or briefs?

Briefs, sorry, I should say granny undies JBut they are sooo comfortable.

  1. Milk, dark or white chocolate –

Oh yes, white, please. With white on top and white on top of that. Thank you.

  1. Sweet or savoury

Savoury – as in cheesy stuff. Nothing with mold. Anything cooked, or fresh, and with those tiny crispy biscuits and wine.

  1. Sea or mountains

I would have to say, looking at the mountains from the sea. Have you seen my farm? Or my walks on my retreats. I love, love, love, photographing both. Be warned.

B. Five likes and five dislikes

Likes are easy I like a lot of things – Babies, people, sunrise, sunset, Uluru – though that last one’s a real wow and is the setting in my next book after Holly’s Heart.

Dislikes – that’s harder; when I forget not to judge people, when I’m running late, when I forget to put petrol in the car, when my deadline is zooming past for a book, and the rest is trivial – if it wasn’t it would be more than dislike.

C. Three things on your bucket list

I love to travel. So…

Visiting Egypt!!!  I’m going on my birthday in November, yayyyy, by myself, because none of my children or my husband will come with me. At least I won’t have to worry if I snore. Quick Story. I called off my wedding 37 years ago to go to Egypt and missed my husband too much. We married, the kids have grown, and darn it, I’m going to see Egypt before I get too much older.

Two and three? To see my children grow old – in the company of my husband.

D. What triggered this specific story?

The setting is the trigger for all of the books. Wirralong is a fabulous Aussie town from four Aussie authors who have very vivid imaginations. We had the best time creating the townspeople and the Wedding Venue. I’ve so loved being a part of the Outback Brides world but did feel it needed a doctor just in case. So I gave it two. This would be because midwifery has been my life and I love medical drama and heroic medical heroes.

Blurb:

Doctor Ben Briely is keen to settle into life as a small town general practitioner and help his grandmother run Briely Park. The city life was never for him. He’s finally found the peace he’s longed for, until the arrival of that one woman he’s never been able to forget, threatens to shatter it all. No way is he revisiting that road of unrequited love…except Holly Peterson seems fragile and in need of saving, and Ben’s never stopped being Holly’s white knight.

After losing her sister and her faith in the world of medicine, Holly Peterson moves home to Wirralong along with her two nephews. Determined to rebuild her life and create a loving home and sense of belonging, she opens the Outback Brides Coffee Shop as her new vocation. When she learns that Ben Briely, the man she said no to years ago is home to stay, Holly fears she’ll lose her heart and her focus on her nephews if she lets him in.

Will Ben be able to break through Holly’s fears and barriers or will history repeat itself and destroy him once again?

Snippet:
Annie retrieved two bottles of ice cold water. She handed Jack one. “Why is the boat in between names?” She took a sip of the water. It felt great on her parched lips, and the cool water quenched her dry throat.

“That’s a long story.” He peered out into the water before them.

She took another gulp of water. It really tasted good. He was right. The heat could really sneak up on you when you’re riding in a boat.

“Well, we have time for long stories, don’t we?” She batted her lashes. She wasn’t letting him off the hook that easy.

“I had a girlfriend.”

“You named your boat after a girlfriend?” Annie frowned.

“She was more than a girlfriend. We were engaged to be married.” His eyes never left the water.

“A fiancée, we call people we are engaged to be married to fiancés.” She giggled.
He turned quickly with furrowed brows then he resumed with eyes steady on the water.

“I’m kidding.” She touched his arm and withdrew it quickly. “Anyway, you named the boat after your fiancée and now you two are no longer a couple, so the boat is nameless,” Annie spoke freely.

“That’s about the size of it.”

“How about you give the boat a name that means something to you that would never change?”

Jack looked back over his shoulder and then turned back around toward the front of the boat. All of a sudden, he cut the engine and they began to drift. He turned and sat down, bringing his bottle of water to his lips and drew in a drink. “I thought about that. But I’m terrible at naming things.”

“Let’s see. I named my dog Buffy because of her color.” Annie searched the boat with her eyes for clues. “How about Lady Luck?”

“I’ve seen a few named that. I want something more original.”

Annie lowered her gaze and stared at her bright pink toe polish. She raised her head quickly. “I know. How about Lady Powell?”

A cup of English Breakfast tea with Louise Rose-Innes

depositphotos_3300129-Cup-of-english-breakfast-tea-with-cookiesauthor profile pic for print books createspaceToday I’m having tea with Louise Rose-
Innes and we’re talking about her latest release, A Passion so Wild. She prefers English Breakfast tea in the morning and Earl Grey in the afternoon. And we are also (and this makes me very happy)  having carrot cake, one of my favourites cakes too!

Before we talk about the story, let’s find out more about Louise:

Questions:

A. Quickies

  1. Tea or wine? (what brand/cultivar?)

Tea! I’ll have English Breakfast in the morning and Earl Grey in the afternoon, please. A slice of carrot cake or a muffin wouldn’t go amiss either…

  1. Read or jog?

Read! I love nothing more than to curl up in a sunny spot with a good book. Does anyone prefer jogging?

  1. Cats or dogs?

Dogs. I’m allergic to cats, unfortunately, but we’ve always had rescue dogs.

  1. Heels or flats?

Heels! I’m already quite tall, but I love to step into my heels for a good night out.

  1. Boxers or briefs?

I actually prefer briefs, especially if the man is well constructed. J

  1. Milk, dark or white chocolate

White chocolate is my absolute favourite treat! I can’t wait until Easter.

  1. Sweet or savoury

Savoury usually, although I have developed an annoying sweet tooth of late.

  1. Sea or mountains

Sea. I grew up near the sea and nothing beats falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. Or waking up to it… or walking along the beach next to it… or surfing in it… or staring out at it.

B. Five likes and five dislikes

I like spending quality time with my son, reading, listening to live jazz, walking in the park and laughing with friends.

I dislike being late, getting behind schedule, cooking, red meat, and big egos.

C. Three things on your bucket list

An American road trip with my best friend, sailing around the Greek islands, and redecorating my entire home!

D. What triggered this specific story?

I wanted a setting that would take my characters way out of their comfort zone. My heroine is a wealthy socialite from New York and my hero is a hunky ex-military engineering tycoon from London, so I thought what better place to stick them than in the African jungle.

Growing up on the east coast of South Africa, I’ve always loved the wilderness and the subtropical rainforests of the region, so I applied this knowledge to the story, and set the book in the Congolese jungle.
Not only do my characters have to get to grips with the heat, humidity and lack of infrastructure, but they also have to cope with gorillas, rebels and the instability of the country.
During my research I fell in love with the magnificent mountain gorillas, which are sadly critically endangered. I am also in awe of the brave park rangers who risk their lives on a daily basis to protect these endangered animals.
So for me, the book is so much more than just a love story. I’m hoping my readers will see it that way too.

A Passion So Wild releases 1/4/16 from all major online retailers. It is available now for pre-order.

A Passion So Wild - Louise Rose-Innes logo flatBlurb:

A Passion So Wild (Release date: 1/4/16)

Former socialite, Lexi, adores her new, fulfilling life as a gorilla vet in the Congolese jungle. Even the surrounding political volatility can’t dim her contentment – until she meets the sanctuary’s enigmatic benefactor, Sir Anthony. He’s wealthy and arrogant, appearing more concerned with his company’s image than the welfare of the sanctuary he’s endowed. He symbolizes the empty, pampered life she left behind – so why is she falling for him? When rebels attack the sanctuary, Sir Anthony is the only man who can keep her safe – yet he’s also the biggest threat her heart has ever faced.

Kathy Bosman’s latest release – Love finds a way and a giveaway!

Love Finds A Way Cover 11KathyBosmanI’m so pleased to share fellow South African author, Kathy Bosman’s latest contemporary fantasy romance with you. Love finds a way is the second story in her The album #series. There a lovely give-away – do scroll down!

Blurb:

When Ella hands over The Album to Pauline, the young food blogger is about to embark on an adventure of a lifetime—she’s been chosen as a contestant in The Culinary Dream, a TV cooking competition. Pauline takes The Album with her to Italy where the filming is to take place and meets food photographer, Xaden, the brother of the man who ripped out her heart and put her off relationships for a long time.

To her dismay, she gets eliminated from the competition on the first round. Humiliated and determined not to be pitied by her friends and family, she decides to stay behind in Italy for a holiday as well as blog about her restaurant experiences in the exotic European country.

Xaden won’t leave her alone and proves to be a friend in a time of need but when he kisses her, she pushes him away, afraid he’ll hurt her like his brother did. The TV series offers her a job as the editor of the food magazine and she is to work alongside the very man she wishes to avoid. Forced to be with the man she can’t resist but whom her instincts tell her she can’t trust, Pauline is in for an emotional roller-coaster ride with The Album as her companion and guide.

Short Excerpt

Pauline nodded and zipped her bag closed, then lifted her chin. Why had she become a quivering mess? No more time for fear. Time to go get that prize. If she wanted it. Did she really want to live in Italy for a year? Oh, crumbs, what was she thinking when she pressed send on the online application?

Her mother tapped Pauline’s watch.

“Time to go.” She gave her daughter a light kiss on the forehead. “I’m going to miss you, but this is going to be the best year of your life. You’ll see, girl.”

Her mother gave her such an assured nod, some of Pauline’s doubt faded. Not all, though. On jelly legs, she made her way through customs and to hand in her luggage. As she picked up her suitcase, a tingle ran up her arm. The Album lay in the centre, padded with all her clothing. She’d signed her name on it the night before. A sense of strength trickled into her bones. Could The Album actually speak to her? She almost felt it tell her it would be with her and help her. It assured her she’d walk the right way and have success.

Okay, I think I can handle this flight now.

I’m ready. Italy, here I come.

Excerpt 1

Five taxis awaited them outside. She bit her lip, certain the crew would take their own taxi, but Caren ferried them to disperse and “get to know one another.”

Much to her distress, Xaden followed her and plonked himself right next to her in the taxi. Once the vehicle chugged out the airport, he placed his camera down at his side, took her hand, shook it roughly, and grinned. “Xaden Zander. And you?”

Zander.

Her mind frantically tried to place the very familiar surname while he stared at her, his face only a foot from hers, so smooth, so confident, and so easy-going. Tingles ran up her arm and she didn’t hold her suitcase with The Album. No magic this time. Pure, breath-robbing attraction.

“Zander. Um…Zander. Are you? You can’t be…?” Icy showers cascaded over her in one heart-rending second. Roan’s brother did have an unusual name. He’d mentioned him at times.

Xaden is Roan’s brother?

“I’m…?” Once again, he seemed amused at her expense.

“You’re Roan’s brother, aren’t you?”

He narrowed his eyes at her, the first sign of any emotion except for upbeat and exuberant. “I prefer not to be judged through the eyes of any woman who’s come into contact with Roan.”

Oh, so he was aware of his brother’s sins?

“It’s hard not to…” His dark eyes became black holes. “…well, you do resemble him, come to think of it.”

Could explain the immediate attraction. Why couldn’t she get away from Roan and the memories he’d branded on her brain? Other women had many partners and got over them all. She’d slept with one guy who messed her around and she still drowned in the raging waters of his indiscretions.

Xaden gave off such a big presence. It filled the taxi, making the driver and the other contestant seated in front seem like an insipid spice that didn’t change anything about the taste of the meal. Xaden, instead, was the garlic, the onions, the bacon, or the rosemary.

But no, he measured up to ghost pepper in danger and heat level. Anyone only vaguely related to Roan should never touch her, even her knee or her back, but never, ever, her heart. She remained way too vulnerable for the likes of them.
