Tea with Bernadette Marie about her latest release, Walker Bride

Drinking teaToday I’m having tea with author Bernadette Marie and we’re talking about book 3 in her Walker Bride series, Walker Bride. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a huge fan of her writing and enjoyed getting to know more about her!

A. Quickies

1. Tea or wine? Tea

2. Read or jog? Read (but I listen to books while I Jog, does that count?)

3. Cats or dogs? Dogs

5. Boxers or briefs? hmmmm, I’ve been married too long to have an opinion I think J

6. Milk, dark or white chocolate Milk!

7. Sweet or savoury Sweet

8. Sea or mountains Mountains

B. Five likes and five dislikes

  1. The sound my family makes in the house (even if it’s loud.)
  2. Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate
  3. The feeling of being happy
  4. Being held close by the person you love most
  5. my job

  1. Dishonest people
  2. closed minded people

C. Three things on your bucket list

  1. To live somewhere else for 1-3 months (only)
  2. NYT Bestseller list
  3. Run a ½ marathon

D. What triggered this specific story?

This story is the 3rd in the Walker Family series. We met Pearl and Tyson in book one and they seemed to be uniquely fitting for one another. Each of them are a little lost in their own right and I think their story was a nice transition to the others to come.

Always the bridal consultant, never the bride. That was former bad girl gone business professional, Pearl Walker‘s life until she put her hands on Tyson Morgan while measuring him for a tux.
Tyson was happy being a miserable man, taking care of his family’s land, and not involved with a woman. However, even he can’t resist the pull of attraction to the beautiful, and off limits, Pearl?
The feud between the Walkers and the Morgans had torn apart friends and families for generations. What might happen when Pearl Walker and Tyson Morgan become business partners—and more?

Bernadette Marie has been an avid writer since the early age of 13, when she’d fill notebook after notebook with stories that she’d share with her friends. Her journey into novel writing started the summer before eighth grade when her father gave her an old typewriter. At all times of the day and night you would find her on the back porch penning her first work, which she would continue to write for the next 22 years.

In 2007 – after marriage, filling her chronic entrepreneurial needs, and having five children – Bernadette began to write seriously with the goal of being published. That year she wrote 12
books. In 2009 she was contracted for her first trilogy and the published author was born. In 2011 she (being the entrepreneur that she is) opened her own publishing house, 5 Prince
Publishing, and has released contemporary titles and has begun the process of taking on other authors in other genres.

Bernadette spends most of her free time driving her kids to their many events. She is also an accomplished martial artist, working her way to her second degree black belt in Tang Soo Do.
An avid reader she loves to meet readers who enjoy reading contemporary romances and
she always promises Happily Ever After.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000039_00010]D. What triggered this specific story?

‘Echoes’ was first brought to life over eighteen years ago following the death of our son. I was doodling in the kitchen trying to get through the day when I began writing a story, that over the following weeks turned into a book. I left it for many years, but it would be found and worked on and rejected and replaced back in the drawer until 2012. I self-published it and it was awarded an Honourable Mention in the New England book festival 2012. The following year it won the e-book category in Paris and awarded another Honourable Mention in the London book awards 2014. Christine Anderson publishing took it on last year.

Bronwen Mortimer, a young, mysterious woman, moves to the quiet village of Derwen, near Shrewsbury, England, in the hope of starting a new life following years of abuse; but the echoes of the land refuse to lie quietly and when she witnesses a terrifying murder, Bronwen must face her past and win, to have any chance of living in the present.

Moving between present day and fifteenth century England, when Henry Tudor claimed the throne at Bosworth. There were many casualties of war, but some will not be forgotten.

D. What triggered this specific story?

This story was born back when I was in 8th or 9th grade. I used to ride the school bus for 45 minutes to my stop and I had lots of younger kids who would listen to me tell stories to pass the time. This story came about from a crazy dangly earring (think 80s fashion) I used as the premise of the story. Of course the story has dramatically changed since then, but my main character remained true to the original.

When Egyptologist April Tanner is asked to translate the hieroglyphs on an ancient ring, she is unwittingly drawn into a world of danger and intrigue. Her colleague, Dr. Peter Scherril, believes the glyphs will lead to a treasure hidden nearly two thousand years ago by an Egyptian named Remaliha. The problem is the glyphs don’t make sense.

A week after Peter is killed in a suspicious car crash, the ring shows up in April’s mail. She vows to decipher the artifact’s code and figure out why someone wanted Peter dead. Her inquisitions put her in the path of dashing archaeologist Nathan Hayes and his mysterious friend James Reddingham. Nathan invites April to join his expedition near Luxor.

Once she arrives in Egypt, April aggressively pursues her investigation of the ring. But soon she suspects the motives of both Nathan and James and finds herself dodging thieves and assassins at every turn. In the end, uncovering the secrets of the ring could lead to Remaliha’s treasure . . . or April’s own tomb.

Touched to the depths – 4th and final story of the Cavallo brothers

TouchedToTheDepths-ByElsaWinckler-453x680And finally the last story about the Cavallo brothers has been released! Touched to the depths, Darryn and Hannah’s story is now available.

He was the photographer, she the model and on a sunny beach on Mahé, she stole his heart. But Darryn isn’t ready for the powerful feelings Hannah elicits, so when another photographer implies he’s also slept with Hannah, Darryn uses it as the perfect excuse to walk away.

But when they meet again, he can’t ignore his instincts—Hannah is in danger. Lies and threats make targets of them both, and faced with a situation of pure terror, Darryn is forced to realize he’ll do anything to protect her. And to keep her with him, always…

She couldn’t help it, she had to do it. The photographer was late, she had her makeup on, her hair was ready, so she could indulge before she had to work.

Lifting her face up to the sun, drinking in the fragrance that was the Seychelles, Hannah lifted the layers of pink tulle of the skirt she was wearing and twirled. The make-up artist and the hair stylist laughed.

“I was wondering when you’d do that,” Sandy, the make-up artist said.

Looking over her shoulder, Sandy grinned. “Looks like our photographer caught you in the act.”

Hannah looked up into a pair of dark brown eyes that were watching her over the lens of a camera. This had to be Darryn Cavallo. The rumors were true—he was drop-dead gorgeous. Tall, muscled, with tousled, ink-black hair. Wow.

She didn’t wait to be introduced to him, didn’t wait to listen to his instructions. With her eyes locked on him, she slid into a pose. He stared at her for another minute before he lifted the camera.

And then her body started moving to a beat only audible to her and the photographer. Without any conscious thought, she posed and turned, instinctively knowing exactly what he wanted her to do.

The air around her stopped moving, breathing became difficult, any minute now she was going to go up in flames. Every cell in her body was reacting to him.

Tea with author Nicholas Fisher – Loving the book launch party

Today as part of his Loving the book launch party, I’m having tea with Nicholas Fisher, author of the YA Paranormal romance, Becky’s kiss. Don’t you love the title? It instantly took me back many years ago 🙂

But before we talk about his book, le’ts find out more about him 🙂

A. Quickies
1. Tea or wine?
2. Read or jog?
3. Cats or dogs?
4. Heels or flats?
5. Boxers or briefs?
6. Milk, dark or white chocolate
7. Sweet or savoury
8. Sea or mountains

B. Five likes and five dislikes

Dislikes: Bullies, Cheaters, Feta Cheese, Too much exposition, The Dallas Cowboys

C. Three things on your bucket list
Go to France, Tour the USA and see a game at every baseball stadium, Meet the members of Kiss

D. What triggered this specific story?
I was co-coaching a baseball game and the other coach told me a story about a boy who was hit in the chest when he was at bat. He was ok, but my imagination ran away with it. What if he died there at the plate? What if he was supposed to be the greatest hitter of all time and break every record? I formed a story around a spirit getting a second chance, and falling in love with a girl his age who gets wrapped up in the current circumstance. Of course, both will have to make a choice, love or baseball…or maybe both??

Mmmm, Nicholas, ‘ha’ is not an answer 🙂

“It could not be worse for ninth grader Becky Michigan on her first day at a new school, sitting in beet juice and staining her white jeans in a classroom about to fill up with students. In the nick of time, a gorgeous blonde boy named Danny comes in and offers his over-sized baseball jersey so she can cover up, get to the office, and change. By the time she pulls the shirt over her head, however, he has mysteriously disappeared.

Becky scours the school in search of her dream-athlete and wonders why after contact with him she has magically gained the ability to throw a fastball ninety miles per hour! Instead of finding the answer, however, Becky’s new skill pits her against the school bully and the entire varsity baseball team.
That night, after her exciting showdown in front of the entire school, Danny shows up at her bedroom window. If she will agree to meet him behind Rutledge High at midnight on the ball field at the edge of the woods, he promises to reveal a secret meant to alter the past and change her life forever.”

Snippet from Touched to the soul – answer for TRR Year-end party

TRR Year end splash partyI’m so thrilled to be a apart of The Romance Reviews Year End Splash Party in November again.

Touched to the soul is the 2nd story in the Touched series about the four sexy hotel tycoon brothers. This is Dale and Zoe’s story.

Enjoy the snippet below – you’ll also find the answer to the question in the TRR’s Year Splash Eng Party in here 🙂

‘Zoe closed her eyes and wished the floor would swallow her up. She loved her romance-writing mother dearly, but at times like this she could cheerfully throttle her. She was forever trying to find husbands for her daughters. Zoe hoped now that Caitlin was married, her mother would back off, but obviously she had no such plans.

Smiling, her mother waved at them and moved away. The music changed again, and the next minute Dale stood in front of her, holding out his hand for a dance. Zoe glanced toward Hannah and Dana, but the other two Cavallo’s held out their hands toward her sister and their friend as well.

There was no way she could refuse this dance—her mother would never forgive her. OK, she’d do this and then nobody could accuse her of not behaving properly.

This was such a bad idea, but short of causing a scene, she couldn’t say no. She took a deep breath and, without looking at Dale, put her hand in his—her last rational act.

The next minute Dale had her on her feet and spun her around. Then he pulled her in and kept her close to his body as he danced around the floor with her. Her feet followed his as if she’d done this a million times before, as if they’d always been dancing together. His movements were flawless, graceful, intoxicating.

This close to him, his scent filled her nostrils, seeped through her skin into her bloodstream from where it filled every cell in her body. His powerful muscles flexed under her hands, his breath caressed her check, and his big, warm hand stroked her sensuously up and down her bare back, leaving every centimeter of her flesh craving for more. Their bodies were fused together. She closed her eyes and let the music and the man take over.

This would end in a few minutes; she would probably not see Dale again very soon, if ever, but for the moment she was tired of denying herself this sensation.’

C. Three things on your bucket list

Going to Italy and finding the town where my grandparents came from

Traveling through Europe on a train

Making a movie

D. What triggered this specific story?

Well it started off as a story about going back to the 1980’s which is my favorite decade. I thought no one has really done much with that subject in a time travel movie, almost like a Back to the Future for our generation now that we’ve gotten older. I lost both my parents and my sister over the years and I thought how cool would it be to go back. We were all together and so happy back then and maybe I could correct the mistakes I’ve made in the past, and who knows maybe even change their fates. So it really just grew and evolved from that into a story that is so much more than just a going back to the eighties story.

The main character, who is very loosely based on myself, gets to not only gets to go back to the 1980’s and see his family again. He also gets to experience being 20 years old again, and I don’t want to give too much away, but he’s getting chased by bad guy time travelers who can move from one body to another. There’s so much at stake for not only his future but everyone’s future so it’s a fun ride.

James Pinard is a writer of books, screenplays, graphic novels and poetry. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, he currently resides in Orlando, FL where he works as a Computer Programmer for an insurance company. He has two beautiful, awesome children Michael and Ariel who inspired characters in his latest creation, “LAND OF THE LIVING.”

His past works include the short story “CREED” which was published in the PULP EMPIRE Collection Vol 1 and “DEARBORNE” in PULP EMPIRE Vol 2 by METAHUMAN PRESS available on Amazon. He is also a Writer and Creator of the Comic series “LUCID WORLD” Issues 1 and 2 published by TRAGIC ENTERTAINMENT.

“LAND OF THE LIVING” began as a labor of love on a subject matter that is close to his heart. One of his favorite subjects is time travel and his favorite decade is the eighties. After having lost both his parents and his sister to cancer, he decided to come up with a story about traveling to the 1980’s to see them again. The story just grew from there and the rest as we say is history.

Follow James on his pages:

Memory told him both of his parents and the woman he loved were gone, but he slowly realizes that he’s traveled back in time to an alternate version of the eighties. President Kennedy is still alive, and the head of a secret time travel program, and perhaps the strangest thing of all – his loved ones are still alive.

He faces a challenge for which he’s not prepared, but he doesn’t have to fight his battle alone. To his amazement, his son, Michael, travels back from the year 2035 to help him discover the true reason he was sent back.

But another mysterious time traveler hunts him from the shadows, and James’ journey becomes a race to save his future existence in the Land Of The Living…

Let’s get a fun look at this book!

Unique aspects and overall coolness of “Land of the Living”

The 1980’s– Set in 1985 it portrays how different things were back then – technology – style – the music and just the overall coolness of the decade. Also a few famous people from that time period make appearances.

JFK – Anytime the assassination of President Kennedy is explored in a story it’s interesting but believe it or not LOTL adds some new twists – the biggest of which is that he is still alive in 1985 and the main character gets to meet him.

Time Travel – Time travel is always cool but in LOTL time travel is not of the body but of the mind. Time travelers can travel back using their mind and take over their own body or the body of someone else who has recently died in the past. Also, the main character is able to bounce back between the past and future. This is unique and really cool.

Cheating death – The main character gets to go back and see his parents, his sister and the girl he loved all of whom are dead in his version of the future. Not only is that a mind bender but it also is an emotional rollercoaster.

The Villains – The bad guys are able to travel through time at will and take over the body of another person even while they are still alive and make them bend to their will. Also, there is a wild card called the Red Headed Woman who is a mysterious ghost-like figure who appears throughout the story. Is she a villain or an ally? You be the judge.

 A mother’s secrets threaten a daughter’s future…

Bethany Waterbury left Hollywood and the shadow of
her mother’s death to give herself a fresh start. Her
main intention—to connect with the family she’d never
really had the chance to know.

Author Kent Black is enjoying his chart topping
success and living freely wherever his travels take him.
But when he meets the illustrious Bethany Waterbury
his wanderlust subsides and the thought of a steady
future begins to take over.

Kent believes in happily ever after, but the burden of
Bethany’s past might be too much for him to embrace
—unless true love is more powerful than a Hollywood tragedy.

 Ready for a snippet!?!

“Bethany?” he called as if they were old friends.
She felt the blood drain from her head.
She didn’t know him did she?
He moved quickly around Mrs. Talbot and straight to her.
“Hi, sorry, had to get away from her. I’m Kent. I know you’re Bethany. I’m a big fan. Not a stalker kind of person at all, just a big fan. I’m thankful for the water. That is for me right?”
She nodded and handed him the glass. “Thanks,” he said as he took the
glass and began drinking.
“She’s weird, that woman,” he whispered. “Thanks for saving me.”
“Do I know you?” she asked softly.
Kent took her arm and led her to the table at the front of the room. It was obviously a tactic to keep people from coming up to him, by keeping her close.
“No. Sorry.” He set his water on the table and held his hand out to shake
hers. “Formal intro now. Kent Black.”
      “Bethany Waterbury.”
“I really like your work. I saw you the other day. I didn’t know it was you, but I saw you.”
She narrowed her eyes on him. “You saw me?”
“You were having coffee with some man. I think he was your brother.”
      “How do you know that?”
His cheeks flushed and he wiped his handover his forehead. “Oh, well, the coffee shop was full. I saw you looking for a table. I was going to invite you to sit with me. You sat with some man and then when you left, you smiled at me, and then said something to him about having lunch with Dad.”

God, he was a crazy mess too, this man who kept her up all night.
