The Script’s The Man Who Can’t Be Moved

We have another wonderful book by author Lisa Swinton today!
It’s a fabulous, clean, sweet romance!

Lisa Swinton caught
the romance bug early by way of fairy tales and hasn’t been able to cure it
since. Consequently, she feeds her addiction with romance novels and films. In
between being a doctor’s wife and mother of two, she puts her B.A. in Musical Theater
to good use via community theater and church choir.
In her elusive spare time she enjoys researching her family
tree, painting her house, and baking, especially with chocolate. She loves
traveling, reading Jane Austen, and all things Italian. In her next life, she
plans to be a professional organizer.

  1. Sweet or savoury

Sweet, although ‘salted caramel’ anything is a current favorite. Can I have both??

  1. Sea or mountains

These are very difficult questions Elsa!! Can I be in the mountain with a view of the sea? My favorite place is the world is Dingle Bay in Ireland. The Conor Pass is definitely in the mountains and that bay is stunning!!

(Sounds perfect, Gail)

 B. Five likes and five dislikes

5 likes- people who are kind for no reason, boating, reading, my family (love) and hot coffee

5 dislikes: people who are mean for no reason, clowns, mimes, liver and cold coffee

 C. Three things on your bucket list

  • Spend a summer in Ireland with my husband
  •  Learn to sail or operate one of our boats- we just moved to a house on a lake and it would be very convenient for me to know how to get around on water
  •  See any one of my books: JEEP TOUR, Guessing at Normal, Driving on the Left- turned into a movie. I already have the cast all picked out!!

 D. What triggered this specific story?

My daughter and I took a trip to Ireland two years ago. It was her first time! We had a terrific vacation and met a super-cute tour guide named Sean. I had just released JEEP TOUR (about a woman who meets a hunky tour guide in Sedona, AZ) and Sean joked that I should write a sequel based in Ireland. So I did!!

DrivingEbookBlurb from Driving on the left:

Like Mother, Like Daughter?

A summer fling changed the entire course of Jackie Sullivan’s life. Back then, she trusted her instincts and took a chance on love. Now she’s at a crossroads and has a big decision to make. How much is she willing to sacrifice for the man she loves? Her daughter Becca’s got her own problem- a secret that could threaten her carefully planned-out future. Romance is the last thing on her mind this summer.

Jackie and Becca planned to explore the beautiful Irish countryside during a relaxing vacation, but when Becca falls for tour guide Sean, she wants to explore much more. Will Becca resist temptation or follow in her mother’s footsteps? Sean may be just too good to pass up.

This book is for anyone who believes in the power of love and its ability to make you all sorts of crazy. Written as a sequel to JEEP TOUR, it can be enjoyed as a standalone read as well.

Author Bio:

My first visit to Sedona, AZ prompted me to start writing JEEP TOUR, my first novel. I fell in love with the red rocks and blue skies. My second novel is Guessing at Normal, a rock and roll love story. I recently released Driving on the Left, a romantic sequel of sorts to JEEP TOUR, based in Ireland. A hopeless romantic, I am married to the love of my life. I am mom to two young adults and three cats, and I enjoy reading, music and travel.

I am a professor in the School of Business & Information Technology at Springfield Technical Community College in Springfield, MA. I was the recipient of the Deliso Endowed Chair Award and was recently recognized by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’s Department of Higher Education as one of “29 Who Shine”.

Review of Driving on the left 5*

I’ve enjoyed Gail Olmsted’s Jeep Tour and I always worry that a follow-up story will not be as good but this one didn’t disappoint! Mother and daughter are touring Ireland, there’s a sexy tour guide with an Irish accent – I was hooked. Writing from a first person perspective, the author gives us glimpses into the thoughts of both mother and daughter, their fears and pain, their joys and love for each other. Jackie is worried her daughter is making the same mistake she made all those years ago and Becca has a secret – the way they resolve both worry and secret makes for a great read.

And have I mentioned the sexy, Irish tour guide?

I was given a copy by the author for a honest review.

All the best with this one, Gail!

  5. Bright tropical colors

    4. Jelly Beans (Ugh!)
    5. Horror movies

Three things on your bucket list

1. Go zip lining

2. Go parasailing

3. Spend a year traveling all around the United States and Canada

D. What triggered this specific story?

“Run Away to the Keys” comes from a character that was in my previous book “Forever in the Keys” – Garrett Homes, a marine biologist. When I wrote my first book “The Keys to Love”, it seemed as I finished the story, a “character” wanted their own story to be told. As I finished my second book, it was as if Garrett wanted his story to be written next. I love the storyline of the older man, younger girl; wealthy versus middle class. But it is the romance that triggers the story every time!

Miki Bennett is a stay at home wife who has an intense love for the beach. Her passions include art and various crafts where she has won numerous awards over the years. She also calls herself the resident family tech geek, always checking out the latest gadget that comes out on the market. Most of all, she loves visiting the beach as much as possible, trying to fit all family vacations close to an island or beach if possible.
Miki began working for her parent’s family business when she was just eight years old and continued until they sold the company in 2007. At this time, she wasn’t sure of her next step in life and started learning as much as she could about the things that interested her the most: website building, painting with acrylic paints, new crochet techniques, photography, and many other venues trying to find out her next stage in life. This lead to her newest pursuit: writing.
She lives in Charleston, South Carolina with her husband, Jeff and their little dog Emma. They are a blended family with three grown children thus consider themselves empty nesters. Miki graduated from high school and went on to the College of Charleston but her interests were so varied that she couldn’t decide on a particular degree so she decided to learn on her own. Her life long pursuit of knowledge has lead her in many directions.
Miki is also a cancer survivor after having treatment in 2002 for Uterine Cancer. In 2013, she was diagnosed with Mastocytosis, a rare, incurable disorder in which patients can have life threatening allergic type reactions to the simplest things even though they are not truly allergic to the item: food, water, sun, heat, cold, sound, etc. Miki had lived with symptoms since she was a teenager but was given one diagnosis after another ending up with twelve different ones before she found the true cause. And since she looked fine on the outside, many didn’t believe she truly was ill. Once receiving the correct diagnosis, she is now on a mission to help others who deal with “invisible diseases” since these can be so hard on the patients. To the outside world patients look perfectly healthy though inside they deal with symptoms both physically and mentally.

A handsome marine biologist comes to Key Largo and meets a beautiful and vivacious boat captain. Sounds perfect, right?
Unfortunately for Garrett Holmes and Skylar Cartwright, meeting and falling in love isn’t all smooth sailing into the Florida sunset.
Despite their mutual attraction and growing feelings for one another, Skylar’s rocky relationship with her wealthy parents and Garrett’s jealous research assistant, Casey, make life plenty hectic for the new couple.
When Skylar’s ex-boyfriend, Andrew, appears on the scene, things get really complicated, forcing Garrett and Skylar to question if love is enough to sustain them through the social storms.
An engaging and spirited romance story set against the luscious backdrop of the Florida Keys, Miki Bennett’s third novel will sweep you away to a world of warm sun and emerald waters.

Snippet:
“You could have your pick of any guy of means, if you would stick to your own kind of people. I mean, you chose a marine biologist. And then you are doing boat charters. You are a Cartwright. If you played your cards right, you wouldn’t want for anything for the rest of your life. That is, if your parents could get their act together too.” Skylar stood there, dumb- founded by Andrew’s remark.
“Why, Dad? Why would you talk to him of all people?” she said, pointing to Andrew.
“I was only doing what I thought was best. Garrett, I’m sorry, but you aren’t right for our daughter. She has such a bright future; plus, you are much older than she is,” Mr. Cartwright said forcibly, looking Garrett in the eye.
“So you want to destroy my life like you are destroying yours and Mom’s.” Skylar said it before she thought. She was so hurt, but she never intended to air private information about her family. She suddenly looked around, and the whole ball- room was eerily quiet. People were speaking in hushed tones. She knew all eyes were on her.
“Personally, Mr. Cartwright, I think that if it weren’t for Garrett, Skylar would have already been back here, where she belongs,” Andrew said smugly. The next sound that traveled across the room was of the slap of Skylar’s hand across his cheek.

A cup of English Breakfast tea with Louise Rose-Innes

depositphotos_3300129-Cup-of-english-breakfast-tea-with-cookiesauthor profile pic for print books createspaceToday I’m having tea with Louise Rose-
Innes and we’re talking about her latest release, A Passion so Wild. She prefers English Breakfast tea in the morning and Earl Grey in the afternoon. And we are also (and this makes me very happy)  having carrot cake, one of my favourites cakes too!

Before we talk about the story, let’s find out more about Louise:

Questions:

A. Quickies

  1. Tea or wine? (what brand/cultivar?)

Tea! I’ll have English Breakfast in the morning and Earl Grey in the afternoon, please. A slice of carrot cake or a muffin wouldn’t go amiss either…

  1. Read or jog?

Read! I love nothing more than to curl up in a sunny spot with a good book. Does anyone prefer jogging?

  1. Cats or dogs?

Dogs. I’m allergic to cats, unfortunately, but we’ve always had rescue dogs.

  1. Heels or flats?

Heels! I’m already quite tall, but I love to step into my heels for a good night out.

  1. Boxers or briefs?

I actually prefer briefs, especially if the man is well constructed. J

  1. Milk, dark or white chocolate

White chocolate is my absolute favourite treat! I can’t wait until Easter.

  1. Sweet or savoury

Savoury usually, although I have developed an annoying sweet tooth of late.

  1. Sea or mountains

Sea. I grew up near the sea and nothing beats falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. Or waking up to it… or walking along the beach next to it… or surfing in it… or staring out at it.

B. Five likes and five dislikes

I like spending quality time with my son, reading, listening to live jazz, walking in the park and laughing with friends.

I dislike being late, getting behind schedule, cooking, red meat, and big egos.

C. Three things on your bucket list

An American road trip with my best friend, sailing around the Greek islands, and redecorating my entire home!

D. What triggered this specific story?

I wanted a setting that would take my characters way out of their comfort zone. My heroine is a wealthy socialite from New York and my hero is a hunky ex-military engineering tycoon from London, so I thought what better place to stick them than in the African jungle.

Growing up on the east coast of South Africa, I’ve always loved the wilderness and the subtropical rainforests of the region, so I applied this knowledge to the story, and set the book in the Congolese jungle.
Not only do my characters have to get to grips with the heat, humidity and lack of infrastructure, but they also have to cope with gorillas, rebels and the instability of the country.
During my research I fell in love with the magnificent mountain gorillas, which are sadly critically endangered. I am also in awe of the brave park rangers who risk their lives on a daily basis to protect these endangered animals.
So for me, the book is so much more than just a love story. I’m hoping my readers will see it that way too.

A Passion So Wild releases 1/4/16 from all major online retailers. It is available now for pre-order.

A Passion So Wild - Louise Rose-Innes logo flatBlurb:

A Passion So Wild (Release date: 1/4/16)

Former socialite, Lexi, adores her new, fulfilling life as a gorilla vet in the Congolese jungle. Even the surrounding political volatility can’t dim her contentment – until she meets the sanctuary’s enigmatic benefactor, Sir Anthony. He’s wealthy and arrogant, appearing more concerned with his company’s image than the welfare of the sanctuary he’s endowed. He symbolizes the empty, pampered life she left behind – so why is she falling for him? When rebels attack the sanctuary, Sir Anthony is the only man who can keep her safe – yet he’s also the biggest threat her heart has ever faced.

  3. Live on a tropical island

Kakadu sunsetD. What triggered this specific story?

Kakadu National Park is one of Australia’s special places—World Heritage listed for both its environment and its living Aboriginal culture. Two years ago on the way to the Northern Territory, we crossed the vast outback through three states, travelling through ancient landscapes and many of those landscapes had been scarred by various types of mining.

Visiting Kakadu and experiencing the spirituality of the land made me wonder what would happen if mining occurred in that pristine environment. The idea for Kakadu Sunset was born. I guess you could call it Crocodile Dundee meets Erin Brockovich! I love including places that I have travelled to in my writing to share the experiences, and the beautiful landscapes, with readers who cannot travel to them.

Blurb:

Helicopter pilot Ellie Porter loves her job. Soaring above the glorious Kakadu National Park, she feels freed from the heavy losses of her beloved family farm and the questions around her father’s suicide. But when a search-and-rescue mission on the boundary of the older property reveals unusual excavation works, Ellie vows to investigate.

The last thing she needs is her bad-tempered co-pilot, Kane McLaren, interfering. The son of the current owners of the farm, her attraction to him is a distraction she can’t afford, especially when someone threatens to put a stop to her inquiries – by any means necessary.

Ellie will have to trust Kane if she is to have any hope of uncovering the truth of what is really going on. Between Ellie’s damage and Kane’s secrets, can they find a way to open up to each other before the shadowy forces shut her up… for good?

D. What triggered this specific story?

This story is the 3rd in the Walker Family series. We met Pearl and Tyson in book one and they seemed to be uniquely fitting for one another. Each of them are a little lost in their own right and I think their story was a nice transition to the others to come.

Always the bridal consultant, never the bride. That was former bad girl gone business professional, Pearl Walker‘s life until she put her hands on Tyson Morgan while measuring him for a tux.
Tyson was happy being a miserable man, taking care of his family’s land, and not involved with a woman. However, even he can’t resist the pull of attraction to the beautiful, and off limits, Pearl?
The feud between the Walkers and the Morgans had torn apart friends and families for generations. What might happen when Pearl Walker and Tyson Morgan become business partners—and more?

Bernadette Marie has been an avid writer since the early age of 13, when she’d fill notebook after notebook with stories that she’d share with her friends. Her journey into novel writing started the summer before eighth grade when her father gave her an old typewriter. At all times of the day and night you would find her on the back porch penning her first work, which she would continue to write for the next 22 years.

In 2007 – after marriage, filling her chronic entrepreneurial needs, and having five children – Bernadette began to write seriously with the goal of being published. That year she wrote 12
books. In 2009 she was contracted for her first trilogy and the published author was born. In 2011 she (being the entrepreneur that she is) opened her own publishing house, 5 Prince
Publishing, and has released contemporary titles and has begun the process of taking on other authors in other genres.

Bernadette spends most of her free time driving her kids to their many events. She is also an accomplished martial artist, working her way to her second degree black belt in Tang Soo Do.
An avid reader she loves to meet readers who enjoy reading contemporary romances and
she always promises Happily Ever After.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000039_00010]D. What triggered this specific story?

‘Echoes’ was first brought to life over eighteen years ago following the death of our son. I was doodling in the kitchen trying to get through the day when I began writing a story, that over the following weeks turned into a book. I left it for many years, but it would be found and worked on and rejected and replaced back in the drawer until 2012. I self-published it and it was awarded an Honourable Mention in the New England book festival 2012. The following year it won the e-book category in Paris and awarded another Honourable Mention in the London book awards 2014. Christine Anderson publishing took it on last year.

Blurb:

Bronwen Mortimer, a young, mysterious woman, moves to the quiet village of Derwen, near Shrewsbury, England, in the hope of starting a new life following years of abuse; but the echoes of the land refuse to lie quietly and when she witnesses a terrifying murder, Bronwen must face her past and win, to have any chance of living in the present.

Moving between present day and fifteenth century England, when Henry Tudor claimed the throne at Bosworth. There were many casualties of war, but some will not be forgotten.

D. What triggered this specific story?

This story was born back when I was in 8th or 9th grade. I used to ride the school bus for 45 minutes to my stop and I had lots of younger kids who would listen to me tell stories to pass the time. This story came about from a crazy dangly earring (think 80s fashion) I used as the premise of the story. Of course the story has dramatically changed since then, but my main character remained true to the original.

When Egyptologist April Tanner is asked to translate the hieroglyphs on an ancient ring, she is unwittingly drawn into a world of danger and intrigue. Her colleague, Dr. Peter Scherril, believes the glyphs will lead to a treasure hidden nearly two thousand years ago by an Egyptian named Remaliha. The problem is the glyphs don’t make sense.

A week after Peter is killed in a suspicious car crash, the ring shows up in April’s mail. She vows to decipher the artifact’s code and figure out why someone wanted Peter dead. Her inquisitions put her in the path of dashing archaeologist Nathan Hayes and his mysterious friend James Reddingham. Nathan invites April to join his expedition near Luxor.

Once she arrives in Egypt, April aggressively pursues her investigation of the ring. But soon she suspects the motives of both Nathan and James and finds herself dodging thieves and assassins at every turn. In the end, uncovering the secrets of the ring could lead to Remaliha’s treasure . . . or April’s own tomb.

D. What triggered this specific story?
I was co-coaching a baseball game and the other coach told me a story about a boy who was hit in the chest when he was at bat. He was ok, but my imagination ran away with it. What if he died there at the plate? What if he was supposed to be the greatest hitter of all time and break every record? I formed a story around a spirit getting a second chance, and falling in love with a girl his age who gets wrapped up in the current circumstance. Of course, both will have to make a choice, love or baseball…or maybe both??

Mmmm, Nicholas, ‘ha’ is not an answer 🙂

“It could not be worse for ninth grader Becky Michigan on her first day at a new school, sitting in beet juice and staining her white jeans in a classroom about to fill up with students. In the nick of time, a gorgeous blonde boy named Danny comes in and offers his over-sized baseball jersey so she can cover up, get to the office, and change. By the time she pulls the shirt over her head, however, he has mysteriously disappeared.

Becky scours the school in search of her dream-athlete and wonders why after contact with him she has magically gained the ability to throw a fastball ninety miles per hour! Instead of finding the answer, however, Becky’s new skill pits her against the school bully and the entire varsity baseball team.
That night, after her exciting showdown in front of the entire school, Danny shows up at her bedroom window. If she will agree to meet him behind Rutledge High at midnight on the ball field at the edge of the woods, he promises to reveal a secret meant to alter the past and change her life forever.”

A glass of Pino Noir with Author Ally Shields

La-Vierge-Noir-2012-510x790Today I’m having a glas of wine with Ally Shields and we’re talking about her latest release, Cross Keys: Revelation, an Elvenrude novel, Book 2, a dark elf urban fantasy.

She prefers a Pino Noir and I’ve picked a bottle from La Vierge, a wine farm in the Hemel and Aarde Valley (Heaven and Earth) in South Africa. This vintage expresses the typical earthy and savoury aroma of this fine Burgundy variety and is backed by a red fruit character.

Before we talk about her book, let’s find out more about Ally 🙂

Questions:

A. Quickies

  1. Tea or wine? wine (pinot noir)
  1. Read or jog? read
  1. Cats or dogs? I love them both.
  1. Heels or flats? sneakers and sandals
  1. Boxers or briefs? boxers
  1. Milk, dark or white chocolate: Yes!
  1. Sweet or savoury: Yum, savoury.
  1. Sea or mountains: mountains

B. Five likes and five dislikes

love spring, summer, fall; hate winter

love broccoli; hate brussel sprouts

love pierced earrings; don’t like other body piercings

love horses; not so crazy about pigs (they’re too smelly)

love to visit the zoo; avoid the reptile building, especially the snakes

C. Three things on your bucket list

Return to Egypt one more time (not likely under the current unrest).

Find a winter home some place warm.

See the cherry blossoms in DC in the spring

D. What triggered this specific story?

Cross Keys: Revelation is a continuation of the trilogy begun with Cross Keys (An Elvenrude Novel). For a long time I wasn’t sure the original book would have a sequel, but over time I realized Kam and Seth’s story wasn’t finished, nor was her sister’s. Revelation and the final book, Unity (I just submitted it to the publisher), tie up those loose ends and resolve the major conflicts. That’s the fun with fiction…you get to make it come out right in the end. 🙂

Revelation-ByAllyShields-453x680Blurb (Cross Keys: Revelation):

If everyone keeps secrets, no one will survive…

Six months after the nightmare in Cross Keys, Kam Ryndel is enjoying her freedom in New Orleans and doesn’t miss the constraints of Elven society. She’s immersed herself in working missions for the CIA, even if it means less time to spend with her boyfriend, Seth. Seth’s not so happy about that. Having shouldered the responsibility of his family’s obligations, he’s losing patience with Kam’s lack of commitment to her own—and to him.

Then a guild worker is attacked by an invisible assailant, and everyone suspects another portal breach by rogues from Elvenrude. As Kam and Seth look for answers, a gang-related CIA mission interrupts the investigation, and Kam is taken to a place she never knew existed—beyond the Louisiana bayou.

Angered by Kam’s new mission, Seth enlists the help of his cousin Rhyden to solve the mysterious guild-worker attack. Instead of an assailant, they discover reports of ghost sightings all over town. Not that unusual for New Orleans, but these seem…different. In a mission complicated by gangsters, feuds, failing magic, and old enemies—and the uncertain loyalty of the Elven king—Seth learns something even worse. Kam is missing. And he isn’t sure if she’s alive or dead…
